The warm-up track at the National Track and Field Centre on the West Coast of Demerara is nearing completion, according to Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.

This addition is set to enhance the facility’s capabilities and boost Guyana’s potential to host more international track and field events.

The National Track and Field Centre, completed in 2015, is now undergoing upgrades to include the warm-up track, which will span approximately 150 meters.

Minister Ramson Jr. expressed that the track has long been a necessary component for the venue, positioning it as a premier destination for international athletics competitions.

International Consultant Patrick Heinen is overseeing key aspects of the project to ensure the highest standards are met.

Ramson Jr. anticipates that the work will be completed within this year, making the West Coast facility the only one in the country equipped with a warm-up track.

The completion of this track will further enhance Guyana’s infrastructure, making it a more attractive venue for hosting regional and international sporting events.
