Wade’s Century Secures Dominant Victory for Georgetown Cricket Club

Joshua Wade’s impressive century played a pivotal role in securing a commanding win for the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) over the Diplomats in the Georgetown Cricket and Friends 2-day second division league at Bourda ground over the weekend.

Wade’s explosive innings of 106 included 11 sixes and four fours, helping GCC post a formidable first-innings total of 265 on a solid batting track.

His century was built on a strong opening partnership of 104 runs with Ryan Hemraj, who added 35 runs.

Despite notable contributions from Diplomats’ national under-17 player Dhanish Persaud and Joshua Charles, each scoring 35, the Diplomats’ batting faltered under pressure.

They were dismissed for just 66 runs in their first innings, with Ezekiel Mondesir top-scoring with 25 and Quaney Cummings adding 11.

Thaddius Lovell was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets for GCC.

In their second innings, Wade again led from the front with a rapid 61, helping GCC to a total of 153-3, setting a challenging target of 352 runs for the Diplomats.

Hemraj and Navindra Persaud also contributed, adding 17 and 29 runs respectively.

The Diplomats’ attempt to chase down the target ended in disaster as they were all out for just 33 runs.

GCC captain Devon Lord excelled with the ball, taking 6 wickets for 8 runs, while Wade added 3 wickets for 11 runs with his off-spin.

In other league action, Transport Sports Club defeated GNIC. GNIC scored 219, thanks to Stephen Campbell’s 62 and Ranole Bourne’s 49.

Transport responded with 286, with Shemar Apple falling just short of a century, scoring 96, and Myhiem Khan adding 40. GNIC struggled in their second innings, managing only 99 runs, with Khan claiming 6 wickets for 31 runs.

Transport reached their target of 32 runs with ease, finishing at 33-1, with Hohenkirk and Apple leading the way.

The Georgetown Cricket and Friends 2-day second division league will continue this weekend.
