-outlines efforts to provide house lots

Efforts are ongoing to reclaim land as the government works to develop an additional 11,000 house lots that will help meet the demand in Region 3. Addressing residents at the Leonora Track and Field Center, Dr. Jagdeo highlighted the challenges to meet the demand.
“So, we’re busy now trying to acquire the land. The problem in this region is that from this area going to Parika, we don’t have much public lands. They’re all private lands. We only have a bit of land in this area that GuySuCo is cultivating now. Everything else is private. At Wales, we have developed a number of house lots and we’ve built all those already. But we still have 10,000, 11,000 people waiting to be allocated,” he said.
Dr. Jagdeo further explained that it would cost between five and seven million dollars to develop each house lot.
“Because you have to, you know, it’s cane areas. Like how it was in Eccles, that was a cane field. We have to excavate out. We have to fill in the trenches. We have to build roads and everything. So, we are hoping that it will take billions of dollars, but we’re going to put the money in,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents were allowed to raise concerns, seek assistance, and discuss issues affecting their communities. The initiative forms part of a series of public outreach events being conducted across the country as government continues to improve access to services and strengthen direct engagements with citizens in various regions.
