With the 2025 national budget set to be presented on January 17, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has shared that the financial plan will prioritize addressing critical community issues, providing more incentives for public servants, and enhancing the disposable income of citizens.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that community feedback, gathered through various engagement initiatives, would play a pivotal role in shaping the budget.

These engagements include discussions around the construction and rehabilitation of essential infrastructure and increasing allocations to local government bodies to address residents’ needs.

On the fiscal side, the budget will introduce reforms to the taxation system, aiming to incentivize citizens to contribute more to the national economy.

Dr. Jagdeo noted that public sector salaries had increased by approximately $100 billion in the past four years, while the private sector had seen a growth of 60,000 new jobs, contributing to the country’s economic development.

Following the success of Guyana’s first trillion-dollar budget in 2024, Dr. Jagdeo indicated that Budget 2025 would build on this momentum, striving to reduce the cost of living and improve the standard of living for citizens, securing the country’s future prosperity.
