During a recent press conference, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo emphasized the pivotal role that northern Brazil will play in driving Guyana’s ongoing development and prosperity.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries to leverage growth opportunities.

Dr. Jagdeo underscored the collaborative efforts between Guyana and Brazil, particularly in securing funding for infrastructural projects aimed at linking the two South American nations.

This collaboration was solidified during the visit of Brazil’s President Lula da Silva to Guyana, which included discussions on trade missions and investment opportunities.

One significant project already underway is the construction of an all-weather road connecting Linden to Lethem, with plans to extend it to Bom Fim in northern Brazil.

Highlighting Brazil’s role as a key partner in bolstering Guyana’s food security, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized the potential for collaboration in agro-processing and meeting the region’s demand for cattle produce.

He noted Brazil’s status as one of the world’s largest beef producers and exporters.

Furthermore, Dr. Jagdeo discussed the prospect of developing an energy corridor between Guyana and Brazil, leveraging Guyana’s petroleum resources for mutual benefit.

In conclusion, Dr. Jagdeo stressed the importance of creating more growth poles to sustain and accelerate Guyana’s transformation, positioning northern Brazil as a crucial element in this strategy.
