VP Jagdeo Highlights Job Creation and Training Initiatives in Region 5

By Josiah Williams

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo recently engaged residents of Region Five, outlining the government’s ongoing efforts to improve citizens’ lives through job creation and education.

Speaking to communities such as Mahaicony, Paradise, Cotton Tree, and Fairfield, Jagdeo emphasized the government’s commitment to employment generation and skills development.

One of the key initiatives discussed was the construction of 10 international hotels across Guyana, a direct result of the government’s proactive approach to inviting proposals for new hotels.

The Vice President highlighted that these projects are expected to create over 3,000 jobs for Guyanese in both the construction and operational phases.

Two of these hotels are currently being built in the Palmyra area of Berbice, offering new employment opportunities for residents in Regions Five and Six.

In addition to job creation, Jagdeo underscored the government’s investment in education and training.

Through programmes like WINN, GROW, BIT, and GOAL, the government has provided free education to 50,000 Guyanese, helping to equip them with skills for future employment.

During his interactions, the Vice President also stressed the importance of staying informed amidst the rise of misleading social media posts.

The engagement forms part of the government’s broader strategy to connect directly with citizens and address their concerns.
