Unveiling Welcome to Linden Sign: Boosting Tourism and Identity

In a bid to enhance tourism and create a distinct identity for Linden, a new billboard has been unveiled at Millies Junction, Amelia’s Ward, welcoming visitors to “Linden, the heartland of Guyana.”

Financed by the Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce, the picturesque billboard is a project completed through the Region Ten Tourism Committee.

Sanalie Ragubar, a representative from the Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce, highlighted that this project is part of the broader tourism development for Region Ten.

She mentioned ongoing programs, including the upgrading of the Region Ten Tourism map, showcasing various tourism attractions like community-based tourism, adventure tourism, and nature tourism.

The sign, considered a new landmark, not only serves as a welcome gesture but also aims to promote Linden as a thriving tourism destination, providing directional information to visitors.

Ragubar noted that capacity-building training is being conducted in the region to support tourism development.

Region Ten’s Tourism Development Officer, Odessa Burrowes-Glasgow, spearheaded the initiative, recognizing the importance of tourism in stimulating business.

Linden’s Acting Town Clerk, Lennox Gasper, expressed hope that the billboard would provide a sense of direction for the town’s development, prosperity, progress, and tourism.

Devin Sears, Chairman of the Region Ten Tourism Committee, explained that branding Linden as the heartland of Guyana was suggested by Norville Fredicks, the founder of Linden Town Day.

Sears emphasized that Linden’s strategic central location bridges the gap between the Coastland and Hinterland communities.

The unveiling ceremony brought together stakeholders, members of the Region Ten Tourism Committee, and Linden’s Acting Town Clerk.

This initiative reflects a commitment to boosting tourism and creating a distinctive identity for Linden, contributing to the overall development and prosperity of the region.
