University of Guyana Hosts Open Day and Career Fair in Berbice

The University of Guyana’s Berbice Campus recently held an Open Day and Career Fair, providing Berbicians with opportunities to explore employment options and further their studies.

The one day event was aimed to assist prospective students in understanding the application and registration process while offering valuable guidance to help them make informed decisions about their educational pursuits.

Government agencies and private companies, including those in the oil and gas sector, participated in the event to showcase job opportunities available to Berbicians seeking employment.

Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, delivered the feature address, emphasizing the importance of making wise decisions when pursuing higher education, particularly in the context of Guyana’s rapidly growing economy.

Minister Bharrat stressed the significance of pursuing one’s passions, stating that doing what one loves leads to greater fulfillment and success.

He highlighted the correlation between a sound education and financial success, underscoring the value of investing in one’s academic and professional development.

Dr. Paloma Mohamed-Martin, Vice Chancellor at the University of Guyana, spoke about the campus’s future transformation to cater to the needs of industries like oil and gas.

She announced plans to introduce new programs at the Tain campus, including Port Management and Security, as well as initiatives tailored for the infrastructure and construction sectors at the Berbice Campus.

The event concluded with a sense of optimism, with attendees gaining valuable insights into educational and career opportunities available to them.
