The Faculty of Education and Humanities at the University of Guyana recently celebrated the achievements of its PHD students, acknowledging their dedication and scholarly contributions.
A total of 18 PHD students were honored during the event, which took place on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Paloma Mohamed-Martin, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that the faculty now boasts more PHD students than any other on campus.
She expressed optimism about the future implications of this milestone.
According to Professor Mohamed-Martin, the presence of PHD students within the faculty signifies a higher quality of education and research output.
She emphasized that these students have the potential to enrich the academic environment by sharing their knowledge and research findings.
Additionally, she debunked misconceptions about the reputation of the University of Guyana, stating that the number of faculty members with terminal degrees contributes to the institution’s standing in the national education landscape.
Deputy Chief Education Officer of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Marti DeSouza, extended congratulations to the awardees, commending their hard work and determination.
He emphasized the importance of perseverance and self-belief in achieving academic success, encouraging the students to continue striving for excellence.
The Awards Ceremony, held in the George Walcott Lecture Theatre, provided a platform to celebrate the academic accomplishments of the PHD students and recognize their significant contributions to the university community.
This recognition underscores the University of Guyana’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and research advancement within the Faculty of Education and Humanities.
