United Kingdom Affirms Ongoing Support for Guyana in Border Controversy with Venezuela

In a recent interview with NCN News, the United Kingdom’s Minister for Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley, confirmed the UK’s commitment to lobbying support for Guyana in its pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the border controversy with Venezuela.

Rutley emphasized that the UK has actively raised the matter at the UN Security Council and is collaborating with allies and partners to garner broader international support for Guyana’s case.

He disclosed that he has engaged with key figures, including Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland, to secure extensive backing for Guyana’s stance.

During his official visit to Guyana, Rutley held discussions with President Irfaan Ali, focusing on the border controversy and exploring avenues for enhancing the relationship between the UK and Guyana.

The discussions encompassed areas such as sustainable and economic development, as well as security cooperation.

Accompanying Minister Rutley were Robert Tinline, the FCDO’s Americas Director, and Jane Miller, the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Guyana.

Rutley’s visit reaffirms the UK’s commitment to supporting Guyana on the international stage and fostering cooperation in various critical sectors.
