United Airlines is set to begin serving the Guyanese market from April 1, 2024, according to the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Egbert Fields.

The nonstop air services will connect the oil capital of the USA, Houston, Texas, with Georgetown, Guyana.

United Airlines expressed its interest in commencing operations in Guyana in November of the previous year, planning to use a Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft for passenger transportation.

The airline applied for the operational license, and after completing the necessary processes, it is scheduled to operate four flights per week between Georgetown and Houston.

Lt. Col Egbert Fields, Director of GCAA, sees this addition as a direct signal of the expansion of Guyana’s aviation sector.

He anticipates relief in the tight uplift situation, especially during the holiday season, and expects an increase in tourism with passengers from the West of the US being able to reach Guyana and the Caribbean in a nonstop, one-hop manner.

The commencement of operations by this major carrier is expected to bring positive developments to Guyana’s aviation landscape.
