United Airlines Inaugurates Direct Flights Between Guyana and Texas

In a significant development for Guyana’s aviation sector, United Airlines commenced its inaugural flight to Guyana, arriving at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Monday evening.

This new route marks a pivotal moment for both countries, further strengthening their commercial and bilateral ties.

The maiden flight, operated by United Airlines, arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport from Houston, Texas.

The airline’s decision to launch operations in Guyana underscores the growing interest of U.S. companies in the country’s burgeoning economy.

Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United Airlines, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, emphasizing its potential to provide convenient access to Guyana’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

United Airlines, known for its extensive network in Latin America and the Caribbean, aims to enhance connectivity by offering direct flights to 52 unique destinations in the region.

U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, hailed the new flight as a testament to the deepening commercial ties between the two nations.

She emphasized its role in unlocking tourism opportunities and fostering economic growth for both countries.

Minister of Tourism, Industry & Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, lauded the addition of United Airlines to Guyana’s aviation sector, recognizing its potential to enhance connectivity and stimulate tourism.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to positioning Guyana as a significant hub for the Caribbean and beyond.

The new service, operational four times weekly, will facilitate travel between Houston, Texas, and Georgetown, Guyana.

With a capacity of 166 passengers, the Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft offers a range of amenities, including larger overhead bins, seatback entertainment, and Wi-Fi.

Minister Walrond highlighted the broader implications of this venture, including job creation, support for local businesses, and overall growth in the tourism sector.

She reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering a thriving aviation sector that connects Guyana to the world.
