The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) face an anxious wait as they hope for a chance to feature in the final of the ExxonMobil Global Super League following a disappointing loss to Rangpur Riders on Wednesday evening at the National Stadium in Providence.

Opting to bat first, Rangpur Riders found themselves in trouble early, losing their first five wickets within 6.4 overs, with only 27 runs on the board.

Despite the early setbacks, Khushdil Shah (58) and Nurul Hasan (15) fought back, combining for 61 runs before Shah was dismissed in the 17th over.

The Riders’ innings ended at 117 runs.

Dwaine Pretorius was the standout performer for the Warriors with the ball, claiming three wickets for 15 runs from four overs.

Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib each took two wickets.

In response, the Warriors struggled to build any momentum. Pretorius (1) and Moeen Ali (5) were both dismissed early, leaving the team at 7 for 2.

Shimron Hetmyer also fell for a duck, and the pressure mounted as the Warriors lost their fifth wicket with Hassan Khan (1) run out.

Motie (15) and Shai Hope briefly steadied the innings, combining for 36 runs before Motie was dismissed in the 13th over.

Keemo Paul’s quick-fire 18 runs provided some hope, but he too was dismissed, followed by Imran Tahir (2) and Hope (35).

The Warriors eventually folded for 102, handing Rangpur Riders a 15-run victory.

With this defeat, the Warriors are now left awaiting confirmation on their fate in the tournament, as they must rely on the outcome of other matches to determine if they will have another chance to compete for the final.
