UK joins Global Biodiversity Alliance

Outgoing British Ambassador to Guyana, Jane Miller

Outgoing British Ambassador to Guyana, Jane Miller has announced that the United Kingdom will be joining the Biodiversity Alliance spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

Ambassador Miller made the disclosure during her farewell reception at her official residence, which was attended by President Ali and other invited guests.

“The UK has made a decision to join His Excellency’s Global Biodiversity Alliance. We believe this is a small initiative for slowing down the global biodiversity loss, bringing great people together, countries, institutions, to really see progress. You have the most beautiful country I have seen, I’ve had the privilege of being in every region of the country and that has been a real highlight of my time here,” she said.

She confirmed that President Ali will soon travel to the United Kingdom for further discussions aimed at advancing the alliance and strengthening international cooperation on biodiversity protection.

Miller assured that the UK’s participation in the alliance will assist efforts to combat global biodiversity loss.

She also praised Guyana’s rich natural heritage and ongoing commitment to sustainable environmental practices.

Meanwhile the UK Ambassador expressed gratitude to various sectors, including central government, civil society, the opposition and the media for their support during her tenure. She also reiterated the strong partnership between the UK and Guyana.

Jane Miller OBE served as the British High Commissioner to Guyana, non-resident Ambassador to Suriname, and Representative to CARICOM from July 2021 to January 2026.

She was appointed in July 2021, succeeding Greg Quinn.
