The University of Guyana Trojans Volleyball Club triumphed in the Classic Ball Blasters and Guyana Volleyball Federation’s Mashramani Cup on Thursday, held at the National Gymnasium.
In the male category of the Schools Mash Volleyball Tournament, the University of Guyana defeated Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) in a thrilling best-of-five final.
UG clinched the championship with a 3-2 set victory after an intense battle. CPCE showed resilience, winning the second set 25-23, but UG secured the title with a narrow 15-13 win in the final set.
In the female category, CPCE made an impressive run to the finals but ultimately fell short against Saints Ravens, losing in another exciting 3-2 finish.
CPCE had earlier dominated the preliminary rounds, defeating Saints Warriors 17-4 and Saints Ravens 17-13.
President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation, John Flores, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s turnout.
He highlighted the importance of building a solid foundation for volleyball in Guyana, especially at the school level, and expressed hope for the eventual expansion of the competition into a national tournament.
The event showcased fierce competition from several schools, including President’s College, Annandale Secondary, and St. Roses High School, all of which displayed remarkable volleyball talent.
