UG Trojans Claim First Victory in GABA U23 Championship

Jushaun Bailey led the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans to a resounding victory in their debut match at the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Under-23 club championship held at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

In a dominant performance, the UG Trojans showcased their prowess with a commanding 81-36 win over the Festival City Black Caimans.

They set the tempo early, outscoring the Black Caimans 21-16 in the first quarter.

The Trojans continued their aggressive play throughout the game, extending their lead to 45-23 by halftime.

They maintained their momentum after the break, outscoring their opponents 17-6 in the third quarter.

Despite a spirited effort from the Black Caimans in the final period, the Trojans secured a decisive victory with a final score of 81-36.

Jushaun Bailey was the standout player for the Trojans, contributing a game-high 24 points.

Quiron Bourne managed 13 points for the Black Caimans in a losing effort.

After the match, UG player Kareem Whitney expressed satisfaction with their performance, emphasizing their hard work and determination.

He noted that the win was long overdue but was optimistic about carrying the momentum into their upcoming games.

Meanwhile, Black Caimans’ captain Ronaldo Kissoon attributed their defeat to conditioning issues, acknowledging UG’s experience and consistent pressure throughout the game.

In the other match of the day, the Meadowbrook Nets secured a 71-59 victory over the Lamaha Park/Springs Pepsi Sonics.
