The Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition in Region Six witnessed a spirited clash between the University of Guyana Tain Campus and the Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organization, with UG emerging victorious.
The moot for debate centered on whether “internet access should be a fundamental human right.”
Ugeeta Boodhram of the Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organization argued in favor, highlighting the internet’s role in facilitating the exercise of basic human rights as recognized by the United Nations.
On the opposing side, Purnima Totaram of UG Tain Campus countered, asserting that internet access as a human right is impractical and could compromise user safety.
After rigorous arguments from both sides, the judges, led by Head Judge Dianne Henry, declared UG Tain Campus the winner.
The team was praised for their strong points and clear presentation.
This victory underscores the importance of youth engagement and critical thinking in addressing contemporary issues.
