In a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility in Region One, the health posts in the villages of Koko and Wallaba in the Moruca Sub-district have been re-commissioned.

During a recent visit to the sub-district, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony officially re-commissioned these two health posts, which underwent rehabilitation efforts in 2023.

Dr. Anthony emphasized the government’s commitment to upgrading healthcare facilities across Region One, regardless of their size, to ensure they effectively serve their respective communities.

He highlighted the importance of not only improving the physical infrastructure but also enhancing the capacity through training initiatives.

The introduction of telemedicine systems in various hinterland communities has also been instrumental in extending healthcare services to remote areas.

Dr. Anthony announced plans to establish more telemedicine sites across the hinterland regions, with the aim of enhancing access to healthcare for residents.

Currently, there are 25 such sites, with plans to add another 50 in the upcoming year.

The selection of beneficiary locations is being carefully coordinated with regional health authorities to maximize the impact of these services.

Furthermore, the Ministry is actively working towards upgrading all health facilities in the region to better cater to the healthcare needs of residents.

Dr. Anthony encouraged individuals from within the villages who possess the necessary qualifications to take advantage of training opportunities provided by the Ministry.

Programs such as the Community Health Worker Training and Nursing Assistant Training Programme are among those being offered to build a skilled healthcare workforce within the communities.

With these initiatives in place, residents of Koko and Wallaba villages, along with others in the Moruca Sub-district, can look forward to improved access to quality healthcare services.
