Two Families Receive New Homes Through Core Home Initiative

November 8, 2024

Two families on the East Coast of Demerara received keys to their newly built two-bedroom homes today under the Ministry of Housing and Water’s Core Home Support Initiative.

This marks the 22nd home delivered in the region as part of the Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme, a collaborative effort between the Government of Guyana and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The homes, located in Mon Repos and Lusignan, were constructed for beneficiaries from low-income brackets after a comprehensive assessment.

The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of vulnerable families by providing them with safe, comfortable housing.

Beneficiary Baburam Sanichar expressed gratitude, emphasizing how this home has transformed his living situation.

Another recipient, Shauna Badrinauth, shared her excitement and appreciation, noting that this opportunity has opened a new chapter for her and her family.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, highlighted the impact of the programme, emphasizing how it provides a significant uplift to families in need.

He noted the stark contrast between the previous living conditions of the beneficiaries and their new, secure homes, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving lives through such initiatives.

The Core Home Support Initiative continues to enhance housing accessibility for low-income families, contributing to the broader goal of sustainable development and national transformation.
