Two Dead, Three Hospitalized Following Corentyne Accident

Two men are now dead, while three others are hospitalized following an accident on the Hampshire Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.

The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Brandon Ramsammy of Kilcoy/Chesney and 60-year-old Mooreer Khan of Albion.

Meanwhile, those hospitalized are 23-year-old Rameshwar Sookram of Albion, 29-year-old Joseph Kamaladeen of Chesney, and 31-year-old Rajkumar Veerapen of Letter Kenny Village.

Based on reports received, the accident occurred at around 23:30hrs on Tuesday. Ramsammy was said to be driving motorcar PRR 7985 along the Hampshire Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate, when he lost control and collided with Khan, who was riding an electric bike, in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, the rider of the electric bike was flung onto the parapet then into a drain where he received injuries about his body, and the motorcar turned turtle.

They were all rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital, where Khan and Ramsammy were subsequently pronounced dead. The three injured were then transferred to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital.

Khan’s wife, Naeema Khan told reporters that her husband left home for work around 16:00hrs on Tuesday and was expected back home after 23:00hrs.

Ramsammy’s wife, Vashti Amernauth said her husband left home to take the car to the mechanic shop.

NCN understands that Khan’s family is hoping that a thorough investigation is conducted to determine who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Investigations are ongoing.
