Twenty students were recognized for their exceptional leadership abilities during the fourth Guyana-China Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition at a ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Georgetown.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit.
Each of the honored students received both a cash award and a trophy for their accomplishments.
The awards were given to two students from each educational district—one for first place and one for second place—acknowledging their outstanding performance.
At the ceremony, Deputy Chief Education Officer Marti De Souza underscored the importance of the competition in promoting youth development.
The event serves as a platform for young people to cultivate skills in collaboration, creativity, and leadership, while also strengthening the relationship between Guyana and the People’s Republic of China.
In his remarks, the Charge d’Affaires of China to Guyana, Huang Rui, reaffirmed the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to supporting the competition.
He highlighted the ongoing partnership between China and Guyana, noting that the event is part of efforts to deepen the bilateral ties established between the two nations.
The competition focuses on enhancing students’ academic, soft, and technical skills, while also encouraging them to undertake meaningful community projects that contribute to societal development.
Looking forward, the 2025 edition of the competition is expected to launch soon.
