Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Emphasizes Role of Oil & Gas in Energy Future

During the opening of the energy conference, Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, underscored the enduring importance of the oil and gas industry in the regional energy landscape.

Despite the global push for renewable energy, Dr. Rowley emphasized that hydrocarbons will remain a significant source of energy for the foreseeable future.

Dr. Rowley assured that while the region invests in and expands the contribution of renewables, it will continue to sustain the oil and gas industry during a period of transition.

He specifically mentioned that Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname, as key players in the Caribbean’s energy economies, will not disregard beneficial opportunities in this sector.

In advocating for energy security, Dr. Rowley stressed the necessity of regional collaboration.

He emphasized that whether focusing on hydrocarbons or renewables, effective utilization of resources and collective efforts are essential for developing the energy sector and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change.

Dr. Rowley commended Guyana for hosting the conference, acknowledging its growing significance and stature as a vital event on the regional energy conference calendar.

He highlighted similar forums hosted by Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, reinforcing the importance of such collaborative platforms for maximizing future prospects in the energy sector.
