The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has raised concerns over the exclusion of Red Force captain Darren Bravo from the West Indies One-Day International (ODI) squad set to face England.

The TTCB is urging Cricket West Indies (CWI) lead selector Desmond Haynes to provide a comprehensive explanation of the criteria used in selecting the regional team.

Darren Bravo, who led the Red Force to a record-breaking victory in the Super50 season, has been left out of the West Indies ODI squad without a clear rationale.

Bravo exhibited exceptional performance during the Super50 season, securing the Golden Bat with 416 runs, a highest score of 139 not out, and an impressive average of 83.2.

Despite his stellar contributions, his omission from the squad has sparked concerns and calls for transparency in the selection process.

Altaf Baksh, the general secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, emphasized that the reason behind Bravo’s exclusion remains unclear.

The board is seeking a detailed explanation from Desmond Haynes to shed light on the criteria and considerations that led to the decision.

Haynes had previously mentioned that CWI is focusing on investing in players with an eye on the 2027 50-over World Cup.

However, Baksh dismissed this explanation as “hollow” and argued that neglecting top performers could discourage and hinder the growth of regional talent.

Over the weekend, Darren Bravo took to social media to announce his decision to step away from the game in light of his non-selection, adding a personal dimension to the ongoing controversy surrounding his omission from the West Indies ODI squad.

As the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board expresses its concerns and advocates for transparency in the selection process, the cricketing community awaits further clarification on the criteria used for team selection.
