Last Thursday marked a significant milestone for four low-income families along the coastal corridor as they received keys to their new homes under the Core Home Support initiative.

These homes, valued at $5 million each, were constructed as part of the Ministry of Housing and Water’s Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme.

The beneficiaries, including Shabina Haniff of Hope, Egland Campbell of Sparendaam, Nigel Ralph of Goedverwagting, and 81-year-old Jennifer Klass of Sparendaam, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to rebuild their lives in safe and secure environments.

Jennifer Klass, reflecting on her journey, shared her story of resilience and thanked divine intervention for the blessing of a new home after losing everything in a fire.

Housing and Water Minister, Collin Croal, emphasized the inclusive nature of the program, highlighting that beneficiaries are selected based on established criteria without discrimination.

Minister Croal revealed that a total of 95 homes have been completed under the initiative, with plans to deliver a total of 323 Core Homes to vulnerable families.

Under the Core Home initiative, 71 beneficiaries have been selected from villages within the project boundary on the East Coast of Demerara.

The program’s progress is evident, with four homes handed over, four occupied, fifteen under construction, and forty-eight at the procurement stage.

The Core Home Support initiative continues to transform lives and provide hope for families in need, marking a significant step towards achieving equitable housing opportunities for all residents.
