Regional Executive Officers (REOs) from all ten administrative regions recently participated in a training session organized by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
The training session, attended by REOs who will serve as Returning Officers (ROs) for the upcoming Amerindian Village Council elections, aimed to ensure proper oversight and conduct of the electoral process.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in accordance with the 2006 Amerindian Act.
This legislation not only recognizes the unique cultural heritage and traditional practices of Amerindian villages but also provides the legal framework necessary for effective administration, including village elections.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Ryan Toolsie, highlighted the crucial role of ROs in ensuring fair, transparent, and inclusive elections.
