Tragic Discovery of Burnt Body in Parika

In a grim turn of events, an anonymous tip led police to discover what is suspected to be the burnt remains of a woman in Parika, East Bank Essequibo. The incident has left the community in shock.

Late Tuesday night, authorities received a phone call reporting the discovery of the burnt body. Upon arrival at the scene—an unfinished concrete structure—police found what seemed to be a charred skull and torso amidst debris.

Adjacent to the remains, a sledgehammer and crowbar were discovered, raising further questions about the nature of the incident. Residents in the vicinity were interviewed, and a neighbor recounted seeing an individual known as ‘Rodwell’ burning materials earlier in the day.

The victim, Shannen Obermullah-Mohamed, a 29-year-old resident of Parika, had visited the location earlier in the morning. However, as the day progressed, attempts to reach her proved futile, raising concerns about her whereabouts.

In a desperate bid to find Shannen, family members ventured to the site that evening. They reported that ‘Rodwell’ left the area abruptly, disappearing into the darkness. With great effort, they managed to douse the flames with water from a nearby source, only to make the heartbreaking discovery of what appeared to be a human skull amidst the wreckage. The police were immediately contacted.

According to police reports, the suspect is known to the victim’s family. The remains, now awaiting DNA testing for positive identification, have been taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home.

Divisional Commander Khali Pareshram confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. The community is left grappling with the shock and sadness of this tragic event, as they await further developments in the case.
