As Guyana prepares to host eleven Caribbean Premier League (CPL) games at the National Stadium in Providence, the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force has issued several advisories to alleviate expected congestion along the East Bank Demerara Corridor.
The games begin this evening, and authorities are anticipating significant traffic buildup.
Traffic Chief Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh has provided guidance for commuters, advising them to consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
He recommends using the Hero’s Highway for those traveling in northern or southern directions to reach destinations beyond the stadium.
Additionally, for individuals crossing over to the western side of the Demerara Harbour Bridge from the East Bank public road, the two lanes with police presence should be utilized.
However, Singh noted that the police traffic department does not manage the lanes controlled by the Demerara Harbour Bridge Company, which may present challenges during peak traffic times.
The Traffic Department is in communication with the bridge management to enhance traffic flow, especially on match days.
On game days, traffic officers will be stationed along main roads and near the stadium to ensure safety and order.
The Traffic Chief has urged all road users to adhere to the five C’s of road safety and to observe all road signage to minimize accidents and ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the CPL events.
