Inspector Sherwin Henry, Traffic Chief of Division Ten, reports a significant decrease of 75% in accidents compared to the same period last year.
This improvement underscores ongoing efforts by the police to promote road safety in the region.
In 2023, Division Ten recorded one fatal accident during the first half of the year. As of 2024, there has been one confirmed fatal accident.
Similarly, nine serious accidents occurred in 2023, compared to only one in 2024.
Additionally, there were nine incidents of damaged vehicles in 2023, reduced to two in 2024.
Speaking on the weekly program ‘Region Ten in Focus,’ Inspector Henry attributed these positive developments to educational outreach initiatives aimed at educating road users about safe driving practices.
He emphasized the importance of caution and adherence to traffic laws, particularly along the Amelia’s Ward public road, where most incidents occur.
Inspector Henry highlighted ongoing awareness campaigns and urged drivers to prioritize safety over right of way, advocating for reduced speeding and careful maneuvering at junctions.
The Traffic Department continues to enforce laws against motorcyclists riding without helmets, targeting errant behavior to ensure safer roads.
Inspector Henry also cautioned parents against allowing underage children to operate vehicles.
