Top Performers Shine at CARFITA Tune-Up Meet

In a thrilling display of athleticism, Tianna Springer, Athaleyha Hinckson, and Jaheel Cornette emerged as standout performers at the CARFITA vs the Rest track and field championship held at the national Track and Field Center on the West Coast of Demerara.

The event, which served as a precursor to the upcoming CARFITA track and field championship, showcased the remarkable talent and competitive spirit of the athletes.

In the women’s events, Tianna Springer demonstrated her speed and dominance by clinching victories in both the 200-meter and 400-meter finals.

With impressive performances, she crossed the finish line ahead of her competitors, including fellow CARFITA qualifiers Athaleyha Hinckson and Nerissa McPherson.

Athaleyha Hinckson, on the other hand, asserted her prowess in the women’s 100-meter finals, securing a commendable win with a swift run of 11.51 seconds.

Her CARFITA teammate, Nalicia Glen, finished closely behind in second place.

In the men’s competitions, Kaidon Persaud represented the CARFITA team admirably in the 800-meter finals, clinching a respectable third-place finish.

Meanwhile, senior athlete Noelex Holder displayed his skills by emerging victorious in the men’s 200 meters, with CARFITA-selected Jaheel Cornette trailing closely behind in second place.

Jaheel Cornette also showcased his talent in the men’s 100 meters, securing a commendable third-place finish.

However, it was Nicholas Daw who claimed the top spot in the men’s 400-meter finals, with CARFITA athlete Kaidon Persaud finishing fifth.

The CARFITA squad, consisting of 23 members, is now gearing up for the highly anticipated CARFITA track and field championship scheduled to take place at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada from March 30th to April 1st.

With their recent performances serving as a valuable tune-up, the team is poised to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.

As the athletes continue their preparations, anticipation is building for their departure next week to represent Guyana on the regional stage.
