Timehri Roads Set for Major Upgrades to Improve Accessibility

By Delicia Janneire

The community of Timehri is poised to benefit from substantial roadway improvements, with over 1.4 kilometers of road set for rehabilitation.

The Special Projects Unit (SPU) of the Ministry of Public Works is spearheading these upgrades, which will enhance access from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport to the South Dakota Racing Track.

Public Works Minister Juan Edghill recently visited Timehri to inspect the ongoing roadworks.

He highlighted that various sections of the road will receive different treatments, including asphaltic concrete paving and enhanced drainage.

The construction of four culverts is part of these efforts to improve drainage and mitigate flooding, ultimately aiming to provide much-needed relief to the area.

During his visit, Minister Edghill also toured the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Air Corps Base, located near the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

He engaged with senior GDF officers to discuss support for the expansion of the base’s operational infrastructure.

The planned upgrades include expanding aircraft landing spaces and improving drainage systems.

Minister Edghill emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the GDF Air Corps has the necessary support to function effectively as it expands its capabilities.
