In a significant development for the judicial system in Guyana, three new Commissioners of Title have been sworn in, marking a pivotal moment for the Land Courts.

Among them, Essequibo welcomes its first-ever resident Commissioner, signifying a milestone for the region.

Esther Sam, Renita Singh, and Christel Lambert took their oaths in a solemn ceremony, committing to uphold justice and serve the people of Guyana faithfully.

Chancellor of the Judiciary, Yonette Cummings-Edwards, emphasized the importance of these appointments, highlighting the heavy workload and the meticulous selection process that preceded them.

Chancellor Cummings-Edwards underscored the significance of having a resident Commissioner in Essequibo for the first time, along with the appointment of two Commissioners in Berbice after more than a decade.

She expressed pride in the expansion of the judiciary and the vision to improve access to justice for all citizens.

Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the administration of justice.

He emphasized the importance of fairness and expediency in legal decision-making, addressing the common concern of lengthy legal processes faced by citizens.

The newly appointed Commissioners, Sam, Singh, and Lambert, bring a wealth of experience to their roles, having previously served as State Counsels in the Chambers of the Attorney General and the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions, as well as Magistrates in various districts.

The appointments mark a significant step forward in bolstering the judiciary and ensuring efficient and fair legal proceedings in Guyana.
