The Thomas Lands road is undergoing significant upgrades to transform it into a major traffic route, linking Vlissengen Road and Camp Street.

Public Works Minister Juan Edghill highlighted that the road was originally not designed to accommodate heavy-duty vehicles. However, due to congestion on Carifesta Avenue, heavy-duty vehicles often utilize the Thomas Lands road.

To address this issue and alleviate traffic congestion, upgrading the Thomas Lands road has become a priority.

A new technology called Mechanically Stabilized Earth wall is being employed on both sides of the road to reinforce and stabilize the aging infrastructure.

This innovative method utilizes geo-grid and geo-fabric materials filled with sand at the base and concrete in the outer walls, ensuring durability and stability.

Kester Hinds, Manager of Traffic, Safety & Maintenance, emphasized the importance of these upgrades in enhancing traffic flow and safety in the area.

Minister Edghill reassured the public that the ongoing construction will not disrupt the upcoming Emancipation celebration, which relies on access from this route.

The transformation of the Thomas Lands road into a major traffic route underscores the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and addressing traffic congestion challenges in key areas.
