In a significant effort to elevate the quality of service in Guyana’s food and beverage sector, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has partnered with Catalyste+, a Canadian organization, to host a one-day training session for local professionals.

The event, held at the Princess Ramada Hotel in Providence, East Bank Demerara, focused on improving customer service skills and aligning local practices with international standards.

The training covered a range of topics essential to high-quality food and beverage service, including techniques for wine pouring, proper table setting, and ensuring a memorable guest experience.

Emphasis was placed on fostering effective teamwork between servers and kitchen staff to enhance overall service delivery.

Chef Brian Edwards, representing Catalyste+, brought over 57 years of experience to the training, highlighting the importance of adapting to global trends within the industry.

He stressed that maintaining high service standards is crucial for attracting and retaining customers in a competitive market.

Dee George, President of THAG, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration with Catalyste+ and emphasized that this training is part of a broader strategy to improve service standards within the industry.

She noted that as Guyana’s tourism sector grows, it is essential to keep pace with international expectations to remain competitive.

The training is part of THAG’s ongoing efforts to prepare local businesses for the increasing demands of the tourism industry, especially in light of the recent expansion driven by the oil and gas sector.

By improving service standards, Guyana aims to enhance its appeal to tourists and ensure a high-quality experience for visitors.

Through initiatives like this, Guyana is taking proactive steps to support its tourism and hospitality industry and provide exceptional service that meets global standards.
