Test Match Cricket Returns to Guyana After More Than a Decade: Cricket West Indies Announces Home Tours

Cricket West Indies has unveiled a series of home tours for the regional men’s team, marking the long-awaited return of test match cricket to Guyana after more than a decade.

The schedule, announced on Friday, promises an exciting lineup of international matches from May to December 2024.

The board has planned three international home tours against South Africa, England, and Bangladesh, offering cricket enthusiasts an array of thrilling matches to look forward to. South Africa will kick off the series with three T20 Internationals at Sabina Park before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

They will then return to the region for a two-Test Match Series, with one match scheduled to be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr confirmed the significance of bringing test cricket back to Guyana, highlighting it as part of the government’s initiative to establish Guyana as a prominent sporting hub.

Following the South Africa series, the West Indies team will engage in a second 3-match T20I Series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, preceding the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

This will be followed by matches against England, including three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20Is, to be played across Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, and Saint Lucia.

The final engagement of the year involves Bangladesh in an all-format tour, featuring two Test Matches in Antigua & Barbuda and Jamaica, three CG United ODIs in St. Kitts & Nevis, and three T20Is in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.

The announcement has ignited excitement among cricket fans in Guyana, marking a significant milestone in the country’s cricketing history.

As the sport returns to local grounds, anticipation builds for memorable matches and the revival of cricketing fervor across the nation.
