The Winfield Brathwaite Caribbean Schoolboys and Junior Championships is scheduled to take place from August 16 to 18 at the National Gymnasium.

Head of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle, has announced that teams will begin arriving on Sunday.

Guyana’s 28-member team will be based at Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis’s gymnasium starting Saturday.

Confirmed participating nations include Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia, Suriname, Barbados, and Antigua and Barbuda.

Ninvalle expressed high expectations for the event, emphasizing its importance for the sport’s development in the region.

In preparation for the championships, over twelve under-16 competitions have been organized to ensure local boxers are in peak condition.

The event will feature local and international medical teams to oversee the athletes’ well-being.

The championships are named in honor of Winfield Brathwaite, a renowned Commonwealth medalist, continuing the tradition of recognizing successful Caribbean boxers.

Guyana recently secured a strong performance at the OECS Boxing Championship in St. Lucia, finishing second with four gold and two silver medals, trailing only behind Trinidad and Tobago.
