Team Guyana Shines at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympics officially began with a spectacular opening ceremony, and Team Guyana made a memorable entrance, capturing global attention.

The ceremony, held along the iconic Seine River, saw Guyana’s athletes proudly showcasing their national pride.

Dressed in elegant outfits featuring the colors of the Guyanese flag, the delegation exuded grace and unity as they sailed along the river, carrying their nation’s flag high.

For many athletes, this was the culmination of years of dedication and hard work.

Guyana is represented by five athletes this year, competing in athletics, swimming, and table tennis.

French President Emmanuel Macron officially opened the Games.

Guyana’s Aleka Persaud and Raekwon Noel will begin their swimming events in the Women’s 100m Freestyle and Men’s 400m Freestyle on July 27 at the Paris La Défense Arena.

Chelsea Edghill will compete against Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou in the first round of table tennis on July 27 at 9:00 AM Guyana Time at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

In athletics, Emanuel Archibald will run in the Men’s 100m heats on August 2, and Aliyah Abrams will race in the Women’s 400m heats on August 5.

The 33rd Olympiad will continue for 19 days, from July 26 to August 11, featuring 329 events.
