Teachers across Guyana are celebrating Teachers’ Week, themed “Valuing Teachers’ Voices towards a New Social Contract for Education.”

In Linden, educators gathered for a series of activities, culminating in a vibrant rally today.

The week of celebrations began last Sunday with a church service at the Linden Church of the Holy Spirit (LICHAS), which set a positive tone for the upcoming events.

On Monday, teachers engaged in insightful discussions at a Men and Women Symposium hosted at both Wismar Hill Primary School and the Linden Technical Institute.

Tuesday’s activities featured a domino competition at Mackenzie Primary School, sparking friendly rivalry among educators.

Teachers also participated in a special radio program and enjoyed a lively Teachers’ Concert at LICHAS that evening.

On Wednesday, the finals of the domino competition took place, followed by a karaoke night, allowing teachers to showcase their talents beyond the classroom.

Thursday’s highlight was the annual cookout held at Rasville, one of the most anticipated events of the week.

Today, the week culminated in a significant Teachers’ Rally.

Dressed in their unique outfits, educators marched from the Linden Technical Institute to LICHAS, displaying their unity and enthusiasm while advocating for greater recognition of their roles in shaping the nation’s future.

The week of activities will officially conclude on Saturday with a day of hiking at Richmond Hill, offering teachers a chance to relax and reflect on their accomplishments.

Teachers’ Week is an annual celebration dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of educators and reminding the public of their essential role in societal development.
