Teachers to Receive 27% Salary Increase and Additional Benefits

In a significant boost for the education sector, teachers in Guyana will see a 27% increase in their salaries over the next three years, along with several additional incentives.

This agreement was formalized today between the Ministry of Education and the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU).

Under the new agreement, teachers will receive:

If public servants’ salary increases exceed these percentages, teachers will receive the difference.

For the first time, teachers will be compensated for marking and supervising SBA’s and NGSA Grades 5 and 6 mock exams.

Additionally, teachers re-employed after retirement will be paid at their last salary scale before retirement.

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the education system and supporting teachers.

“We are pleased to offer this holistic package, which will benefit over 13,000 teachers both in the coastal and hinterland regions,” said President Ali.
