Residents recently allocated leased lands at Swan Extension along the Soesdyke Highway received valuable support this weekend to assist in building their homes and enhancing their community.

Kwame McCoy, the Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Public Affairs, visited the community with a team from the Ministry of Housing and Water on Saturday.

During the visit, he presented residents with two weeding machines and block-making molds, essential tools for land preparation and construction.

The machines will aid in clearing the land, while the molds will enable residents to produce their own building blocks.

Mary Rodrigues, a resident of Swan, expressed her appreciation for the government’s initiative, highlighting that the support allows community members to allocate their resources more efficiently.

She emphasized the importance of utilizing the materials provided to work collaboratively towards improving their community.

In addition to the machines and molds, Minister McCoy announced that the community would also receive four slings of cement to assist in block production.

He reassured residents that the government is committed to providing ongoing support throughout the construction process, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in building their homes.

Residents of Swan have shown a strong commitment to community development, volunteering to assist one another in weeding their lands and constructing cement blocks.

This collaborative spirit reflects the unity and determination of the residents as they work together to build their futures.

The residents received their land leases in June of this year from President Irfaan Ali, marking a significant step towards home ownership and community growth in the Swan Extension area.
