Surveillance activities have commenced for the extensive road repair works along the East Bank of Demerara, spanning from Good Success to Timehri, amounting to a total project cost of 75.8 million US dollars.
Surveillance operations kicked off this morning, overseen by the China Road and Bridge Corporation in collaboration with local company Sheladia Associates Inc.
This marks the initial step in the implementation of the ambitious road improvement project.
Residents in the area expressed varying sentiments regarding the upcoming works.
Madai Khuslall, a resident, expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the persistent issues with drainage, water, and road conditions in the area over the years.
On the other hand, Abena Scott, another resident, voiced concerns about potential traffic disruptions during the construction phase, particularly during morning rush hours when commuting to school with her children could be affected.
The project, funded at 75.8 million US dollars, will entail the construction of a 23.5-kilometer climate-resilient road from Good Success to Timehri, along with upgrades to drainage systems and bridges in the vicinity.
Specifically, the stretch from Good Success to the Soesdyke Junction will undergo a two-lane upgrade, incorporating dedicated bus stops and pedestrian lanes to enhance safety and accessibility.
This is a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in the region, promising long-term benefits for residents and commuters alike.
