The Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) has been officially launched with the aim of fostering collaboration and networking, as well as expanding economic trade between the two countries.
The launch event, held at the Pegasus Corporate Centre, brought together key stakeholders from various sectors.
The SGCC consists of businesses spanning sectors such as construction, consultancy, and oil and gas.
Dr. Vishnu Doerga, Chairman of the Chamber, announced that over 60 companies have already joined, with more expressing interest every day.
He emphasized the SGCC’s commitment to professionalism and advocacy for collaborative efforts among its members.
Suriname’s President, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, attended the event and expressed optimism about the opportunities for increased collaboration between Surinamese and Guyanese businesses.
He highlighted the importance of connecting private sectors through regular interactions, communication, and information sharing to facilitate trade.
Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, also addressed the gathering.
He reiterated the government’s full support for the SGCC, noting its timely establishment amidst Guyana’s rapid economic development, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
Dr. Singh encouraged businesses from both countries to capitalize on trade opportunities and explore cross-border ventures.
The launch of the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce marks a significant step towards enhancing economic collaboration and trade relations between the two neighboring countries.
