Residents of Kamarang in Region Seven, along with neighboring villages, have experienced a significant healthcare breakthrough with the completion of a series of surgeries at the newly established surgical theatre in the Upper Mazaruni District Hospital.

The surgical team successfully performed eight procedures, including gallstone and hernia removals, benefiting residents from Paruima, Waramadong, Phillipai, Kamarang, and several other communities.

Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, Director General of the Ministry of Health, emphasized that this achievement reflects President Irfaan Ali’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services and bridging the gap between hinterland and coastal regions.

He noted that the initiative alleviates the burden faced by patients who previously had to endure long journeys to the capital for medical care.

Speaking to the media, beneficiaries of the surgical procedures shared their experiences.

Sylvester Hope expressed gratitude for the smooth process and thanked the project team.

Similarly, Colson Thompson, who had previously sought medical assistance in Georgetown without success, expressed relief after undergoing successful surgery for hernia.

This milestone marks the introduction of surgical capabilities in several hinterland villages for the first time, including Moruca in Region One and Aishalton in Region Nine.

The government plans to expand surgical facilities to additional villages in the near future.
