Students from across Guyana gathered at the National Cultural Centre on Thursday to compete in the highly anticipated Calypso and Dramatic Poetry Finals of the Children’s Mashramani competitions.
The event saw young performers showcasing their talents before an enthusiastic audience of teachers, classmates, and supporters.
Participants delivered captivating performances, proudly representing their regions as they vied for the title of “Best in the Country.”
Students in the audience expressed their admiration for the performances, highlighting the bravery and dedication of their peers.
Many noted that the competition served as a platform to boost confidence and celebrate Guyana’s culture.
Among the standout competitors was Sarryah George of Hope Secondary, who secured 3rd place in the 14–18-year-old category with her portrayal of a police officer.
She described the experience as rewarding, despite her hopes of placing higher.
In the Dramatic Poetry Finals, Kareem Jabar of Christ Church Secondary took 1st place in the 11–13 years category, while David Hackett of The Bishops’ High School emerged as the winner in the 14–18 years category.
For the Calypso Finals, Ashanti Garnett of Mahdia Primary won the 8–10 years category.
In the 11–13 years category, Odelia Pickering of New Silver City Secondary in Region 10 secured 1st place, while her schoolmate Gardana Alberts claimed victory in the 14–18 years category.
The competition continues to provide a platform for young talent to flourish while fostering national pride and cultural appreciation.
