Personnel from the Health Ministry’s regulatory bodies are currently participating in a Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) workshop focused on Caribbean Regulatory Systems for Health Products.
Facilitated by the European Union, this workshop engages delegates from Barbados, Geneva, Italy, and Spain.
The primary goal of the TAIEX workshop is to advance pharmaceutical equity within the global public health system and enhance capacity in the region.
This is achieved through bolstering regulatory frameworks, sharing best practices in pharmaceuticals, and more.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasizes the significance of this workshop, highlighting that it marks the initial step in Guyana’s dedicated efforts to align with EU regulations and pharmaceutical standards.
Dr. Anthony further notes that the workshop will shed light on gaps in Guyana’s Public Health legislative agenda and support the government’s initiative to expand pharmaceutical manufacturing locally.
The TAIEX, an instrument of the European Commission, provides support to public administrations for the approximation, application, and enforcement of EU legislation.
It also facilitates the exchange of EU best practices through various means, including workshops, expert missions, and study visits.
