Residents of Karasabai, Region Nine, are reeling from significant damage after a powerful storm struck the village yesterday.

The storm, marked by strong winds and heavy rainfall, left 22 homes destroyed, displacing numerous families.

A team from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, along with the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), was dispatched to the village to engage displaced residents and assess the extent of the damage.

Toshao of Karasabai, David Albert, spoke with NCN News about the devastation caused by the storm.

He reported that four homes were completely destroyed, while others had their roofs blown off, with the aluminum zinc sheets scattered across the area.

He estimated the damage to be in the millions.

Albert confirmed that the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the Village Council were already working on alternative measures to assist residents.

Temporary residency and food supplies are being provided to those affected as they await further assistance from government officials.

“We’re expecting them very shortly, and when they come, they will inform us of the government’s plans for recovery.

In the meantime, we are doing our best at the local level to restore normalcy,” Albert said.

This storm comes just two months after a similar disaster affected residents of Sand Creek Village, also in Region Nine.

The affected villagers continue to rely on local support and await further aid to rebuild their homes and lives.
