Stella Maris Primary Prepares for Champions of Champions Cricket Tournament

Stella Maris Primary, the reigning Georgetown champs, is set to represent Demerara in this weekend’s prestigious Champions of Champions competition at the Georgetown Cricket Club.

After an unbeaten run in the Georgetown-led Future Warriors Tapeball Schoolboys championship, the team is brimming with confidence heading into the upcoming matches.

During a recent training session at Gandhi Stadium, teacher Latoya Thomas, who is responsible for coaching the team, shared her optimism.

Thomas, who isn’t a physical education teacher but a passionate cricket enthusiast, expressed confidence in her boys’ performance.

“I’m very confident of my boys. We’ve been working, practicing, and I’m seeing improvement. I’m very confident we can bring it home for Demerara,” she stated.

Thomas, who has a background in cricket from her own school days, is dedicated to passing on her knowledge to her students.

Stella Maris Primary will face off against Cropper Primary from Berbice and Huis T’ Dieren from Essequibo in the one-day tournament.

In addition to trophies and medals, the winning team will be awarded a second gear bag containing Tapeball cricket equipment.

A special novelty match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Guyana Marriott Hotel will also take place on Sunday, September 22.
