Steady Prices amid flood concerns

NCN visited Bourda Market in Georgetown to check on the latest food prices amid unpredictable weather and rising flood concerns.

Shoppers and vendors are seeing some relief as prices for key items have so far remained stable, offering a sense of reassurance during an otherwise uncertain period.

Despite unpredictable weather, food prices remain stable, with meat and poultry selling for $480 to $500 per pound, eggs $1,300 to $1,600 per tray, and vegetables like eshallot at $500 per pound, and cabbage, carrots, and tomatoes between $260 to $300, as authorities continue monitoring rainfall and potential flooding risks.

It’s a sense of stability that vendors say is helping to keep customers coming back.

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha says measures are in place to reduce flooding, though blocked drains remain a concern, while the met office warns that continued heavy rainfall could increase flooding risks in several areas.

For now, the markets remain steady, a small but meaningful comfort for households already watching every dollar.
