As Guyana’s economy continues to expand, officials say stronger standards and measurement systems will be critical to supporting investment, trade and industrial development. These issues were among the focus areas at the Guyana National Bureau of Standards Metrology Symposium held earlier today.

Guyana is strengthening its national quality assurance systems,  with government and regional officials underscoring the importance of internationally recognised standards in supporting investment, trade, and economic expansion.  Speaking during the Bureau’s Metrology Symposium, Executive Director of the GNBS, Trevor Bassoo said investment in strengthening quality systems is key to national development.

“Hosting this event sends a clear signal to investors that Guyana is committed to quality, standards, and internationally recognised systems,” he said.

Bassoo noted that maintaining internationally accepted standards will help position Guyana as a trusted destination for investment and business development.

“This assurance is increasingly important as we develop key sectors in both the manufacturing and servicing industries,  and as we position Guyana as a competitive and reliable partner in the global marketplace,” he said.

The symposium also highlighted the role of metrology and the science of measurement in developing effective policies, strengthening trade and competitiveness,  and supporting regional cooperation. World Metrology Day will be observed on May 20
