In an intense matchup in the GABA Under 23 Basketball League at the National Gymnasium, the Stabroek Eagles emerged victorious against the Lamaha Park/Springs Pepsi Sonics over the weekend.
The Eagles clinched a hard-fought five-point victory over the Pepsi Sonics with a final score of 70-65.
The game remained closely contested from the start, with the Eagles taking a slim three-point lead of 19-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Despite a resilient effort from the Pepsi Sonics in the second quarter, the Eagles maintained a narrow lead of 36-34 going into halftime.
After the break, the Eagles regained momentum, showcasing strong defense and effective shooting to extend their lead.
Although the Sonics made a late push in the final period, the Eagles managed to maintain their advantage and secure the win.
Martin Edwards led the scoring for the Eagles with 14 points, supported by Captain Alafin Joseph, who contributed 12 points.
For the Pepsi Sonics, Marvin Mars led the scoring with 15 points.
Following the closely contested match, Captain Alafin Joseph of the Stabroek Eagles attributed their victory to their solid defensive performance, expressing satisfaction with the team’s overall effort.
Meanwhile, Sonics captain Kervin Mars acknowledged his team’s shortcomings but remained optimistic about their ability to bounce back stronger in future matches.
