The Under 11 football match, which unfolded over the weekend, saw St Pius overpower Redeemer Primary, marking a triumphant return for the determined team.
The opening moments of the match hinted at St Pius’s early dominance, with Octain Moore swiftly giving them the lead.
Despite some heated exchanges between the coach and the referee that led to Coach Wayne Richie’s red card, St Pius remained unfazed, extending their advantage with a Redeemer own goal.
Skipper Octain Moore returned to the field to make it 3-0, firmly asserting St Pius’s control.
While Redeemer attempted a comeback, only Jayden Kendal managed to find the net, resulting in a 3-1 final score.
St Pius’s unwavering focus secured their victory and the reclaiming of the pee wee school football title.
In the third-place contest, West Ruimveldt secured a 2-0 win against Potaro Primary, with goals from Dane Vancooten and Deshawn Thomas.
The tournament, featuring over 30 schools from seven regions, was sponsored by Courts Optical, Sterling Products Limited, and MVP Sports, with support from the Ministries of Education and Sports.
Sanctioned by the Guyana Football Federation, the event celebrated outstanding contributions and sportsmanship.
Dontay Kowlessar from Enterprise claimed the title of Highest Goal Scorer with 13 goals, while St Pius’s Clive Jacob received the Best Goalkeeper award.
Aaron Violoncellos, the star striker for St Pius, was honored as the tournament’s MVP. St Pius’s Wayne Richie was recognized as the Best Coach, and Den Amstel Primary received the Most Disciplined Team award.
